Brighton Primary Parent Involvement

There are a number of ways to be involved at Brighton Primary. We have working parties for various school functions or you can nominate yourself to be elected on to school council. You can undertake a short course which allows you to attend the classroom to help with the literacy program. You can help out at our school canteen or be available to help with school excursions or sports days. Notices are sent home with your child asking for assistance for various activities throughout the year. It is now a Brighton Primary School Policy that any parent, guardian, grandparent etc have their current working with children check which allows you to enter the school or attend an excursion. Our school office can assist you with these details.

What does Brighton Primary Parent Involvement entail?

You can be involved in a small group that organizes one event for the year or you can be involved in as many activities as you wish. For example a group of mum/ dads may organize the annual school luncheon, and another group may organize the mother’s day stall. We have found over the years that parents are more than willing to help at a particular event rather than be committed to a full year of activities. As mentioned above there a numerous ways to be active in the community. Another very important way of volunteering is to nominate yourself to be a class rep. This involves organizing a coffee morning, a dinner out or a play date ….anything that encourages parents to interact with each other. You are also a point of call for your class teacher for any assistance they may need for various reasons eg class excursions. More detail below on being a class rep.

How do I go about registering my name to help?

Our school newsletter is a wonderful source of information. At the beginning of each school year we will include a list of activities that are happening at the school and you are then encouraged to fill out the form and return to the school office. Upon the return of the form the Parent Representative will contact you to confirm your desire to help.

Is it compulsory to help?

No not at all, we understand that we all lead very busy lives. It is however a great way to be involved even if you can spare a short amount of time. We find this helps to create a great community spirit within our school and the children love to see their mums or dads as part of their school life.

What is done with money raised?

Money raised by social events throughout the year has in the past contributed to the playground equipment in the school, outside seating for the children and the development of the quite garden. We have also recently contributed to the synthetic ovals around the school and more recently monies raised in 2008 have been contributed to our new outdoor art facility.

Class Liaison Representative:

An additional and important link between the parents, teaching staff and school community are the class representatives who act as liaison persons between parents, teachers and the Executive Parent Representative. There are voluntary parent representatives for each class who may be called upon to assist in the organization of various activities, programs and events involving their child’s grade.

If you have any questions regarding the parent involvement or perhaps have new fundraising/socializing ideas you’d like to suggest, we’d love to hear from you (watch out for details in the newsletter) or email  parentsclub@brighton.vic.edu.au

We look forward to meeting you all and having some fun at our events!!!
