GRADE 5, 2009 LATEST NEWS Unit 5: Who We Are Central Idea: Individuals can have an Impact on Society
Unit 4: How We Organise Ourselves Central Idea: The Global Economy has an Impact on the Working Lives of Individuals "This unit of inquiry taught me many things about the economy. Probably the most memorable activities throughout this unit of inquiry were the trade game, the boys against girls debate about employment and unemployment and our class brainstorm about what will be the biggest imports in Australia in the year 2050. This unit of inquiry has really opened my eyes. I enjoyed researching and learning. Overally it was tones of fun and really challenging" - Yianna "The final assessment was really fun because we got to make our own company and write a history and everything which was really fun for me!" - Ari Essential TasksStudents have a choice of six Literacy Essential Tasks. Their first task is due on Monday 3rd of August and they will need to continue to choose an activity from the sheet to complete on a weekly basis. Students need to also complete one of the tasks from the Numeracy Essential Task sheet on statistics. It is due on Monday 17th of August. Ongoing Projects Book Reports: The next book report is due on September 7th, 2009. Digital Portfolios: Students are working on these in class but can be doing plenty of preparation work at home as well. The Digital Portfolios will be due early in Term 4. Upcoming Events August 12th - House Athletics August 17th - Visit to the National Gallery of Victoria for the Salvador Dali Exhibition OTHER NEWS! SCIENCE ROTATIONS: Today we had a very educational day. We completed the Toothpaste Challenge, Borris Bubbles, Red Hot Rockets and watched The New Inventors. Unit 1: Sharing the Planet Central Idea: The Process of Conflict Resolution can bring about Common Understanding and Effective Change ESSENTIAL TASK COMPLETED BY ISABELLA: WHAT DOES PEACE MEAN TO US? WHAT WE HAVE LEARNT: I have learnt a lot of things about how people live and how we can help them. This unit has really opened my mind - Joey This unit has been extremely fun! When i look back, i see that i have learnt a lot. For example, i now know about the United Nations. I know that the United Nations is an organisation where people from around the world come together to talk about conflict resolution - Anna I have enjoyed this unit of inquiry because i have learnt what it means to resolve conflict. I enjoyed many of the activities including the homework and the group work. My favourite activity was my independent inquiry. The Grade 5 students are excited to announce that they have raised $1,143 for the Brighton Primary Bushfire Appeal. On Thursday, March 19, 2009, the grade 5 students at Brighton Primary School held their FUNFAIR FUNDRAISER EVENING.
